MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) is an Indian professional undergraduate graduate degree. It is a five-and-a-half-year programme consisting of four and a half years of academic study and one year of internship. The course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles of medicine as well as the skills required to become a qualified medical doctor.
The MBBS programme is divided into two sections: pre-clinical and clinical. Pre-clinical studies include anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and pharmacology, whereas clinical subjects include medicine, surgery, obstetrics, and gynaecology. The programme is meant to give students a firm foundation in the basic sciences while also preparing them for more advanced studies in the clinical phase.
The Medical Council of India acknowledges the MBBS degree, which is offered by medical institutions and universities (MCI). Students are given the MBBS degree upon completion of the programme and are entitled to register with the MCI. They are also eligible to take the National Board of Examinations (NBE) screening test to practise as a medical doctor in India.
